How to Make Your Revision Time Effective

 

At Clounagh Junior High School, we encourage all pupils to develop positive revision habits that support long-term learning and build confidence. Effective revision is not about spending hours rereading notes — it is about using your time wisely and consistently.

 

Here are some helpful tips to make revision more successful:

• Create revision materials as you learn Making flashcards and revision notes throughout each topic will help you remember information more effectively.

• Use active revision strategies Simply reading notes repeatedly is not the best way to learn. Retrieval practice, quizzes and flashcards help your brain store information in long-term memory.

• Revise in short, focused sessions Working for around 20–30 minutes followed by a short break can help you stay focused and motivated.

• Plan your revision time carefully A revision timetable can help you balance subjects and avoid spending too much time on one area.

• Tackle challenging subjects first Try to complete more difficult tasks earlier in the day when your concentration levels are higher.

• Take regular breaks and look after your wellbeing Rest, exercise and time away from screens are important in helping you avoid stress and burnout.

• Share your goals with others Talking about your revision plans with family or friends can help you stay organised and motivated.

• Remember that everyone revises differently Find revision techniques that work best for you and focus on making steady progress.
